Nicolas Cage is finding himself in a precarious housing situation after nature took a bite out of his luxury real estate portfolio. During a recent appearance at L.A. Comic Con, the National Treasure star admitted he is currently a little bit homeless, explaining that he has been bouncing between hotels because of severe damage to his multimillion dollar Malibu residence. The actor noted with a touch of irony that the displacement meant he missed out on the usual joy of welcoming trick-or-treaters to his door on Halloween night.

The drama began when what seemed like a modest thirty square foot dip in the driveway rapidly evolved into a massive nine hundred square foot sinkhole. Local officials attribute the collapse to aggressive coastal erosion, with witnesses reporting sightings of ocean waves crashing directly through the void created by the falling land. This environmental disaster struck just two years after Cage purchased the stunning four thousand square foot beachfront property for ten point five million dollars, featuring an expansive roof deck and seamless glass walls designed to embrace the Pacific view.

Cage is far from alone in his struggle against the elements, as several other high profile neighbors in the exclusive Sea Level Drive community have seen their properties red tagged by city officials. Authorities prohibited access to dozens of homes due to concerns over evacuation routes and general safety as roads continued to erode. While the local homeowners association works toward repairs estimated to take about five weeks, those affected remain displaced from their seaside sanctuaries.

Despite this latest setback, Cage remains active in both cinema and real estate across the country. Following the massive success of his indie horror hit Longlegs, he continues to maintain various interests globally, including a lavish condo in Manhattan and ties to Nevada. Though he may be temporarily relying on hotel concierge services in Southern California, this latest architectural mishap adds another eccentric chapter to a storied history of unique and often volatile property investments.
