Nicolas Cage delivered a surprising update to fans at Los Angeles Comic Con this past weekend, revealing that he is currently without a permanent roof over his head. During a panel discussion on Halloween, the sixty two year old actor admitted that he is essentially homeless, explaining that he has been forced to move into hotels after a catastrophic geological event struck his beachfront property in Malibu. While the announcement sounded jarring, it was less about financial ruin and more about a literal collapse of the land beneath his feet.

The chaos began back in September when a massive sinkhole tore through the driveway of Cage’s ten point five million dollar estate. The incident was severe enough to trigger a local state of emergency, damaging gas lines and threatening the stability of several surrounding structures. Local authorities were forced to issue evacuation orders for thirty one homes in the immediate area due to fears of further erosion and incoming weather from Hurricane Marie. For Cage and his family, this meant fleeing their luxury residence as crews rushed in with sandbags and engineering teams to stabilize the ground.

Despite the instability of his housing situation, Cage maintained his usual eccentric charm while sporting a vibrant lime green blazer at the convention. He lamented that he would be unable to welcome traditional trick or treaters to his own front door this year but noted that he still planned to keep holiday traditions alive by taking his four year old daughter, August, out for treats in Santa Monica. To cap off the night, the actor mentioned he hoped to unwind with a viewing of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining once his daughter was asleep.

While some progress has been made with soil sampling and debris removal permits being filed, the recovery process remains slow for everyone in the affected neighborhood. Because the damaged road served as the primary access point for dozens of residents, many have found themselves stranded or displaced while waiting for private contractors and homeowner associations to finalize costly repairs. Until then, one of Hollywood’s most unpredictable stars finds himself living out of suitcases in hotel rooms across Los Angeles.
